About Apeiron Labs

Mission: lower the cost of upper ocean data by orders of magnitude

The ocean covers 71% of our planet, yet we know less about it than the surface of Mars. Apeiron Labs is on a mission to change that. We’re not just building underwater vehicles – we’re building systems that will reshape weather prediction, revolutionize aquaculture, and strengthen national security.

Company History

Apeiron Labs started with a question: what needs to be slashed by 10X in cost to truly revolutionize ocean observation?

  1. 2016

    The Internet of Floating Things

At a Woods Hole whiteboard, Mark Abbott, then President of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and now a Director of Apeiron Labs, and Ravi Pappu, then at In-Q-Tel, take on the challenge of scaling ocean observing. Ravi's question leads to the idea of the Internet of Floating Things, a fundamental enabler of an always-on ocean.

  2. 2022

    Founded

Applied Invention, S2G Ventures, and Ravi Pappu co-found Apeiron Labs after two years of incubation, concept development, and a seed investment from S2G. Applied Invention and S2G have a track record of creating and investing in technology companies. Founding engineering team in place.

  3. 2023

    First government contracts

Contracts awarded by the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy.

  4. 2024

    First vehicle at sea

First-generation vehicle "David Bowie" goes under pressure in the ocean.

  5. 2025

    First fleets and Series A

Navy Phase II SBIR awarded. $9.5M Series A closed in December 2025 with S2G, RA Capital Planetary Health, Dyne, Assembly Ventures, TFX Capital, and Bay Bridge Ventures.

  6. 2026

    Fleets deployed

Tensor fleets operating in multiple oceans, delivering data to customers across multiple missions. Thousands of hours of subsurface data collected and delivered.
